Hellsinger : Steam Next Fest has been a resounding success for Metal: Hellsinger’s demo, which combines Doom and Guitar Hero action. Alternatively, Doom if it were even more heavy metal.
The Metal: Hellinger demo is the show-stopper at the upcoming Steam Next Fest in June, which will include a slew of amazing independent titles. Music-based first-person shooter Doom meets Guitar Hero or, alternately, heavy metal in Doom.
Metal: Hellsinger was first unveiled in 2020, and it already seemed intriguing at the time. First-person shooter in Hell with metal music and Crypt of the NecroDancer-like rhythm game are obvious influences, but it’s the latter that makes this game unique.
A free version of the game is currently accessible as part of Steam’s Next Fest, and it’s already proving to be a big hit, topping the rankings for “popular upcoming,” “most wishlisted,” and “daily active demo players,” according to Steam. It’s no surprise that the project is headed by David Goldfarb, the game director of Payday 2 and the lead creator of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
While you may try the trial for yourself, imagine Doom with a heavy metal soundtrack where you can inflict more damage if you time your bullets to the rhythms and rhythm. However, after you’ve completed a full run, you’ll be rewarded with the whole song’s lyrics.
With a soundtrack that includes tracks by System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, Trivium’s Matt Heafy, Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz, and Jinjer’s Tatiana Shmailyuk, developer The Outsiders have gone all-out.
Make sure to check out Metal: Hellsinger and other Doom-inspired demos like Select, which is effectively F.E.A.R. ported to the Doom engine, while Steam Next Fest is still going strong until June 20th.
