Each of the RetroMania Wrestling campaigns revolves around a single character. The 10 Pounds of Gold mode focuses on current NWA star Nick Aldis, more specifically, chasing his belt and eventual title defense. Story Mode centers on Johnny Retro (based on WWE superstar John Morrison) as he makes a dramatic comeback after suffering a career-threatening injury from Zach Saber Jr. After he completes rehab, Retro hits the road, traveling across the United States and around the world to get revenge. Stylized versions of Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder in WWE), Jeff Cobb, legend Tommy Dreamer and many more appear in the hero’s path, either teaming up with him or challenging him to various shows.
There are 3 sets of moves used in matches – Weak, Medium and Strong. Action in the ring requires the right timing and a considerable number of button presses. There is a tutorial, but all the nuances are learned in practice, when there is an opportunity to try out various combinations against wrestlers in real matches. There are also Royal Rumble and Exhibition modes. The former allows you to play against friends, while the latter gives you complete control over the venue, rules, etc
